James Ianelli

James has many years of experience as a fisheries scientist in developed and developing countries. Although much of James’ work has focussed on the population dynamics and modelling of various teleost finfish stocks, he has also performed extensive research on shark and crab fisheries. Much of his earlier work included mark-recapture studies, involving species as diverse as large yellowfin and bluefin tuna (<30 kg), dungoness crabs and baitfishes.

James Ianelli

His postings have included FAO (Rome), Humbolt State University, Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission, the South Pacific Commission and the University of Washington. Currently, James is a Fisheries Scientist for the Alaska Fisheries Science Centre in Seattle, performing stock assessments on groundfish species in the Northeast Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea. He is also on the board of directors for the International Natural Resources Modelling Association.

Ana Parma

Ana Parma (National Research Council of Argentina) has been working in Fisheries Research for 20 years. She has been a researcher at the Instituto de Biologia Marina y Pesquera in Argentina, the University of British Columbia, the University of Seattle, the International Pacific Halibut Commission and most recently the National Research Council of Argentina. Ana completed her PhD in 1989 at the University of Seattle under Drs. Deriso and Chapman. Her thesis is titled "Contributions to stochastic models for the management of exploited fish populations".

Ana Parma

Ana's main research interest is developing stock assessment methodology and robust harvesting strategies. She has worked with stock assessments in data- rich situations such as Pacific halibut, New Zealand hoki, sablefish, and Chilean lobster. Ana has also been involved in developing stock assessment methods in data-poor situations such as coastal, artisanal fisheries in Chile and Argentina. This wealth of experience, reported in over 25 publications, places Ana in a strategic position to discuss fisheries assessments when only limited data are available.
