The 2001 workshop represents one of the more challenging
topics covered by ASFB in recent years. Don’t think the
subject does not concern you! The discussion and subsequent
outcomes are likely to have direct benefits for your research
whether you are involved with marine, estuarine or inland
fisheries.
This
particular workshop is significant for all aspects of
research on aquatic organisms, as consideration of the
biology and ecology of fish and other aquatic organisms
continues to be a key factor in fisheries management.
The future need to manage exploited ecosystems, not just
the species within such ecosystems, will require a broader
range of information. Data (past, present, problematic
and innovative) will be discussed in this workshop along
with ESD requirements. This workshop is for all scientists
not just for modellers - remember where their biological
data comes from!
Fisheries
science is increasingly being faced with the question
"How do scientists adequately provide management
advice for fisheries involving recreational, commercial
and environmental interests characterised by problematic
and limited data?"
